To create a drop-down menu in Excel, use the data validation function and a source field. Type the options you want users to choose from into the source field. When you do this manually, the options aren't visible anywhere on the sheet.

When building a list, oftentimes there will be a field in each entry which will always be one of several finite options. If this is the case, Excel has a function that allows you to input the options once and then place those options into a pull-down menu. Open Excel. Click on the Windows icon at the top of the the window and scroll down to "Open."

This is one of the simplest ways of pulling data in, as you only have to use a simple formula to pull data from another sheet or cell. You can specify one cell as the ‘Master’ cell, and the other cells can pull the values from that one cell.

In the pop-up window that appears, select the named range on which you based your drop-down list. Then update the "References" formula to either include the cells you want to add or exclude the cells you want to remove. Click on the "Close" button to update your drop-down list. Then click the "Yes" button to confirm your changes.
